Brazil Favelas Create Their Own Banking System
The economic toll of the coronavirus pandemic has hit Brazil's favelas (slums) hard. But they've emerged from the crisis with a plan for the future: launching their own bank. The "G10 Bank," offers micro-loans to small business owners and debit cards to favela dwellers excluded from the traditional banking system.

Eduardo Kobra: Expressing His Feelings Through Art
Brazilian artist Carlos Eduardo Fernandes, AKA Kobra, is one of the most recognized muralists in the world. His works are featured in over 17 countries. His latest work of art is a mural painted in his studio in Sao Paulo, which depicts five children of different ethnic backgrounds wearing face masks. The work represents the unity of all religions and nations in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Galleries and art brokers in Brazil and New York have already begun securing bookings to display the mural. Afterward, it will be auctioned online and 100% of the proceeds will be used to help the homeless and refugees in Sao Paulo. Kobra has immortalized famous personalities from history and pop culture such as Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Ziggy Stardust, Gandhi and Mother Teresa. Kobra’s mural Etnias (The Ethnicities), in Rio de Janeiro, stands at a staggering 50 feet tall. It’s in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the largest example of graffiti in the world.

Brazil’s Marta broke down barriers to become one of football’s best players
Brazilian legend Marta Vieira da Silva is the most accomplished footballer in the world. She was born in a country where women were banned from participating in the sport for almost 40 years. She won FIFA’s “World Player of the Year” Award in six different occasions. The 33-year-old athlete had to fight gender stereotypes, discrimination and inequality just to do what she loved. Correspondent Miuda Valls met up with the famous player, who is known by her fans as “Marta.” Marta’s record for scoring the most goals at a World Cup tournament stands for both women and men. She’s scored a total of 17 times in five World Cups.
